The best holiday family photos in Orlando happen when you book early, keep the outfits simple and warm, and let your family look like itself. A Florida Christmas card does not need snow to feel special.
I photograph families all around Orlando and Cocoa Beach, and holiday photos are some of my favorite sessions. Here is how I help families get a Christmas card photo they actually want to send.
Book earlier than you think
If you want cards in the mailbox before Christmas, the best time to book is now. My full sessions are delivered within three weeks, and card printing and shipping take time on top of that. Good evening light fills up fast in November and December too. If you are short on time, my remaining mini sessions are the quickest way to get on the calendar.
Choose a holiday look that still feels like you
My favorite holiday palette is warm neutrals with one cozy accent, like cream, tan and rust with a touch of deep red or forest green. Texture does a lot of the work, so think knits, linen, lace and soft layers. Matching pajamas are fun at home, but for a card I love real outfits that photograph beautifully. Plan for a Florida Christmas
It can be 75 degrees on the day you take your photos, and that is part of the charm. Choose lightweight knits, linen and flowy dresses, and bring a layer to add if the evening cools off. Sunset sessions are the best way to get soft golden light without the midday heat.
Pick a location that fits your family
- Cocoa Beach: relaxed, golden and very Florida. A beach Christmas card feels like your real holiday.
- A park or neighborhood near you: easy for little kids, with plenty of room to play and soft light under the trees.
If you are not sure which fits your family, tell me about your kids and I will help you choose.
Tips for a relaxed session with kids
- Feed everyone before we start, and pick the time of day your kids do best.
- Tell little ones it is an adventure, not a photo shoot.
- Bring a favorite snack or small toy for a quick reset.
- Expect a few silly moments, because those are usually the favorites.
What to do with your photos
For cards, ask for a few images with extra space around your family for text. Pick one vertical and one horizontal photo so you have options with any card design. Your gallery also makes great gifts for grandparents, framed prints and a family album.
